Jean Francois Ferrari has dropped the challenge

Many people expected JFF to take up the challenge of James Michel to repeat his attacks outside the National Assembly. It is now three weeks since the incident but Ferrari has not followed through with his allegations in a public place, outside the National Assembly where he is not protected by parliamentary immunity. The former President had said that he would sue the National Assembly Member for Mont Fleuri to prove his allegations against his character. Several people had hoped that Ferrari had proof of what he had said against the former President in the National Assembly.

This incident has exposed to which extent some people in the National Assembly are abusing their legislative privileges. Over the last year many people have suffered abuse and insults coming from members of the National Assembly, several had sent letter to the Speaker, but he discarded most and refused to act to protect the people who came under attack. This situation has greatly affected the credibility of this institution, which is now struggling to establish some kind of order during their deliberations. Their behavior has impacted on the way school children behave at school; society in general is now getting out of control and the finger of blame is being pointed at the Speaker and his unruly pupils. What kind of example are they setting for the country?

N THE latest press release by the Seychelles Police, the cause of death of two US Security Offices is reported to be respiratory failure, with suspicion of heart attack. The autopsy reports into the cause of death of Jeffrey Reynolds and Mark Kennedy, two US security officers found dead on the Maersk Alabama last week, has concluded that they died of respiratory failure, with suspicion of myocardial infarction (heart attack).   Samples of urine, blood, stomach contents etc, from the two men are being sent to Mauritius for forensic analysis to establish if they had consumed a substance which may have induced these events.   The Police preliminary investigation report includes suspicion of drug use, as indicated by the presence of a syringe and traces of heroin which were found in the cabin. World Bank to help trace suspicious financial transactions in Seychelles

The World Bank has expressed its support to the investigations being carried out by Sri Lankan authorities into many suspicious financial transactions that had taken place between several Sri Lankan nationals and the Seychelles. Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith P. Perera said that he had met the acting ambassador of the Seychelles in Sri Lanka Condret Meridet, where the Acting Ambassador had expressed his full support to the investigations as well. Previous reports had claimed that several deals made by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa with the Seychelles are suspicious in nature. In response, the government of Seychelles announced that it would also support in the investigations if a formal request is made by Sri Lankan authorities. http://lankaherald.com
